Notice is hereby given that the Lake County Planning Commission will conduct an environmental review on behalf of, and authorized by, the Lake County Board of Commissioners on August 17, 2026, at 6:15 p.m. in the Split Rock River Conference Room of the Lake County Service Center, 616 3rd Ave, Two Harbors, MN 55616. The Planning Commission will review the prepared Environmental Assessment Worksheet (EAW) and the comments received during the required 30-day public comment period. In accordance with Article 4 of Lake County Environmental Review Ordinance #8, a recommendation will be made to the County Board on whether it should require the preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement.
The EAW was submitted by Silver Rapids Resort, LLC, for the expansion of the existing Silver Rapids Resort and conversion to a planned unit development at 459 Kawishiwi Trail, Ely, MN 55731. The property is legally described as: Parcel One: Government Lot Three (3), except the westerly four hundred feet (400’) thereof, Section Thirty-two (32), Township Sixty-three (63), Range (11); Parcel Two: Part of Government Lot Five (5), Section Twenty-nine (29), Township Sixty-three (63), Range Eleven (11), LESS and EXCEPT that portion thereof described as follows: Assuming the south boundary of said Lot 5 to lie due east and west, and beginning at an iron pipe which is the SW corner of said Lot 5, run North 01 degrees 08 minutes 30 seconds East along the west boundary of said Lot 5 a distance of 406.00 feet to an iron pin; thence South 82 degrees 55 minutes 42 seconds East a distance of 430.91 feet to an iron pin; thence South 07 degrees 14 minutes 54 seconds East a distance of 355.72 feet to an iron pin which lies on said south boundary; thence due west along said boundary a distance of 480.22 feet back to the iron pipe which is the point of beginning. 48.47 acres, zoned shoreland RR/Residential-Recreational (Resort) on Farm/White Iron Lake, Fall Lake.
