Practices Draw Record Participation for 2026 Swim Season

This summer, the Two Harbors swim team has been hard at work during its annual summer waiver practices — a period when head coaches are allowed to train athletes outside the regular season. While past summers have seen strong turnout, this year’s participation has been exceptional, with athletes showing up in numbers that far exceed previous seasons.

Summer waiver sessions are optional, designed to help swimmers sharpen technique, build conditioning, and prepare for the official season kickoff on August 17. Coaches say the increased attendance reflects a growing commitment across the team.

“I’ve truly enjoyed getting to know our newest team members,” Head Coach Heather Mayfield said. “They’re bringing so much excitement and joy to the season, and it’s going to make our 2026 season so much fun.”

The surge in participation has also fueled motivation among the coaching staff. With athletes choosing to spend part of their summer in the pool, the energy has been contagious.

“It’s wonderful to see so many dedicated athletes joining us in optional practices,” Heather added. “It makes me motivated every day to be better for them.”

As the team heads toward the start of the 2026 season, coaches say the foundation built this summer — enthusiasm, discipline, and team unity— will set the tone for what they expect to be a standout year.
