Border Patrol Traffic Stop Results in Two Arrests

Grand Marais, MN — On June 8th, 2026, United States Border Patrol agents made a traffic stop near Grand Marais that resulted in two arrests. Border Patrol ran a license plate and the individual listed to the vehicle was flagged for an overstayed visa, which resulted in the traffic stop. One individual was taken into custody for the overstayed visa, and a passenger in the vehicle for being out of visa status.

According to Border Patrol, they will not be charged with any criminal violations. They were transported to the Duluth Border Patrol Station for further processing under administrative immigration violations as per CBP guidelines and policy. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has been advised no ICE agents are currently working in Cook County.
