Boys Varsity Basketball

Cook County played Bigfork on February 16 in a thrilling home game. The Vikings came out on top, beating the Huskies 94-61. 

They travel to McGregor on February 20 to face the Mercs, then return home on February 23 for a 6:30 matchup against Stella Maris Academy.

Two Harbors opened their week on February 11 in Aitkin, falling 88-68 after a strong first half. The next night they played at home with an 84-60 win over the Mercs, a performance Head Coach Bill Anderson called a good bounce back.

“Excellent decisions on the offensive end and good hard work on the defensive side,” Anderson said. 

Riding that momentum, the Agates earned a 75-40 road win over International Falls on February 13. The JV squad also had success in I. Falls with a 61-18 victory.

They headed to Proctor for a February 18 matchup with the Rails and continued on the road February 20 at Greenway/NashwaukKeewatin. 

Girls Varsity Basketball

Silver Bay hosted Ely on February 10 and fell 72-51. They followed with a close 65-60 loss to Cherry on February 12.

The Mariners hosted Floodwood on February 16 with the Polar Bearswinning 74-37. The team then played Carlton/Wrenshall at home on February 17 before hosting Two Harbors on February 19.

The Agates had a tough night in Aitkin on February 11, losing 60-38. They traveled to International Falls on February 13 and fell 73-35.

Two Harbors next hosted Duluth Denfeld on February 16 and the Hunters came out ahead at 57-40. The team then played Mesabi East at home on February 17 before heading to Silver Bay on February 19. 

They travel to Carlton/Wrenshall on February 20.

Youth Basketball

The junior high Agates traveled to a Hibbing Tournament on Valentine’s Day. The 7th grade team went 2-1 and finished third. The 8th grade team went 1-2, including a tough overtime loss.

The 6th grade team hosted a tournament on February 14 and went 2-0. They remain undefeated this season.

Girls Varsity Hockey

The North Shore Storm played at St. Luke’s Arena in the Class 1A, Section 7 Championship as the No. 2 seed facing top-seeded Proctor/ Hermantown. A season of ups and downs came to an end, but the Storm finished 17-10 with big wins, tight losses, and plenty to be proud of.

North Shore’s lone goal came in the first period on a power play. Berkley Hoff scored to briefly tie the game, assisted by Guilia McGiffert, before the Mirage pulled away. 

Proctor/Hermantown advanced to face Dodge County in the Class 1A Quarterfinal at Grand Casino Arena on February 18.

With much young talent returning next season, the Storm’s future remains bright. 

Boys Varsity Hockey

North Shore faced the Broncos on February 10 after an earlier 8-0 loss to them. This time the Storm fell 9-1. Isaiah Bertin scored the lone goal in the first period with assists from Joshua Maxwell and Levi Lovely.

International Falls took control with four goals in the second and five more in the third. Goalie Dax Kretch stopped 55 shots while North Shore generated 13 shots on net.

The boys entered the playoffs on February 17 at Hermantown Hockey Arena for the Class 1A, Section 7 Quarterfinal as the No. 7 seed facing No. 2 Hermantown, who entered the game 16-5-4. It was the first meeting of the season for the two teams.
