Initial Phase of Restoration Complete at Split Rock Lighthouse Access to historic buildings, including lighthouse, available during site hours

TWO HARBORS, Minn. – The week of May 23rd, workers completed the initial phase of this spring’s rehabilitation project at Split Rock Lighthouse, with improvements made to the historic site.

During regular admission hours, 10 am–6 pm daily, visitors now have access to the lighthouse grounds, museum, visitor center, and fog signal building. For an additional cost, guests can register for the guided Keeper’s Tour, which runs at 9 AM on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through October 20th.

Keeper’s Tour tickets are only available online and must be purchased by 11:59 pm the evening prior to the tour. General admission tickets are not available for pre-sale and can only be purchased at the site.

Ongoing construction at the site may impact offerings, and programs are subject to change. Visitors are encouraged to check Split Rock Lighthouse’s website and social media channels for the most up-to-date information.

The project includes improvements to existing pathways and restoring historic circulation patterns within the historic core. After restoration is completed, guests will have access to a better view of where the historic hoist and derrick system was located and learn how it brought materials up from the water in 1909 during construction of the site. This new extended platform will provide views of the lighthouse, coastline, and Lake Superior.
