Highway 61Culvert Work north of Grand Marais began May 12th

DULUTH, Minn. –  The Minnesota Department of Transportation started culvert replacement work on Highway 61 between Grand Marais and Grand Portage on May 12. This project will replace culverts at six different locations around Hovland over two years.

Starting on May 12, traffic was be reduced to a single lane controlled by temporary signals at Myhr Creek (milepost 124.83). A temporary bridge bypass was constructed in advance of the culvert replacement under Hwy 61. Work is expected to last at this location through late July.

Starting on May 19, work will begin at mile-post 126.11 at an unnamed creek. Work will start with temporary widening for a bypass and traffic reduced to a single lane controlled by temporary signals.

  • Do the zipper merge.
  • Avoid making unnecessary lane changes.
