Merlon Mayrand 83, longtime resident of Silver Bay and Beaver Bay, passed away January 2, 2025, at Carefree Assisted Living in Silver Bay, MN.
Merlon was born on June 1, 1941, to Isabelle and Willard Smith in Minneapolis, MN.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was an accomplished photographer who shot many space shuttle launches in Florida as well as many of the sites on the North Shore.
Merlon also enjoyed football, pro wrestling, and buying treats for the residents and staff at Carefree.
A graveside service was held on January 9, 2025, at Palmer Lakeview Cemetery. Arrangements were done by Cavallin Funeral Home. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary’s church in Silver Bay at a later date.
A special thanks to the staff at Carefree for caring for Merlon in his last few years.
