My dad and I arrived early to the UMD Bulldogs’ hockey game on Saturday, January 4th, so we decided to take advantage of the short concession line before heading up to our seats. Little did we know, our dinner would come with some unexpected and adorable entertainment!
“I think they said these are Silver Bay kids,” my dad said, as a group of little athletes began to flood the ice. I hadn’t caught the announcer’s words, but I quickly responded, “Well, they are definitely wearing the right colors!”
A few moments later, an announcement confirmed that they were, indeed, little Mariners! Though their time on the ice was short, we cheered them on with all the enthusiasm we could muster, watching with smiles as they skated around in their bright jerseys.
The previous evening, other area teams had taken the ice during the second intermission, and I was disappointed to have missed them, but I did my best to catch a glimpse of them in the background of a player’s TV interview.
As luck would have it, a few precious pictures of the kids’ skating adventure arrived in my inbox the next day.
“The kids had a great time skating at the Amsoil Arena during the Bulldogs’ game,” said Kiera Wilson, Team Lead for the Two Harbors Mite 2 team.
Cynthia Poyhonen, the Mite 1 Team Lead, agreed, sharing, “They really did have a blast, and every Mite 1 skater was there!”
