ROBERT L.“RABBIT” WESTERMEYER (March 5, 1944 – November 5, 2024)

Robert L. “Rabbit” Westermeyer, 80, of Two Harbors died peacefully in his home on Tuesday, November 5, 2024 surrounded by family.

Bob was born on March 5, 1944 to Lewis and Blanche Westermeyer in Wheaton, Minnesota. His family moved often and he wound up living in Silver Bay when he was a young boy. He attended high school in Two Harbors. Shortly after graduation he entered the Army and served in South Korea as a Spec. 5 Financial Officer. After his discharge, he worked in a Minneapolis bank doing data entry, but decided to return to Two Harbors where he got a job as a lineman for the Contel Telephone Co. Attending night classes at UMD, he earned an Associates degree in Business. During numerous mergers and sales of the phone company, he worked his way up, retiring as Outside Plant Engineer Supervisor. While living in Michigan, he soon became bored with retirement and became a Real Estate Agent. Moving back to Two Harbors he began contract work for various telephone companies, and then worked at LP in the guard shack.

He loved fishing trips to Canada, and deer hunting with “the boys” in Brimson. Bob also loved to golf (badly) with friends and family. Through the years he was a member of the Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, VFW, Loyal Order of Moose, and American Legion. His greatest joy was spending time with his two granddaughters.

Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda (Guptill) Westermeyer; daughters, Jeanine Westermeyer and Holly (Peter) Barnett; granddaughters, Joy and Amber; brothers, Alan and Tony Westermeyer; and sisters, Cheryl (Kevin) Boogaard and Debra (Dennis) Underwood. He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Two Harbors. Burial with military honors will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. To share a memory or leave an online condolence visit www.cavallinfuneralhome.com.

Please do not send flowers at the request of Bob’s family.
