Kalvin C. Swanson, 81, of Two Harbors, died Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at Lake View Hospital. Kal was born June 27, 1943 to Carroll and Gladys (Young) Swanson in Minneapolis where he grew up and attended schools. As a young man he served in the U.S. Army and later attended Minneapolis Business College. He and Kay moved to Silver Bay in 1972 where he was employed in yards and docks at Reserve Mining Company for several years. Later he received a degree in horticulture from DAVTI, and worked as a landscaper, operated various businesses as an entrepreneur, and taught a solar energy class at WITC. He and Kay have made their home in Two Harbors since 2007.
Kal will be remembered for always wearing a smile. He enjoyed tinkering and inventing and was an avid reader. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. Kalvin loved God and shared his faith in Jesus Christ with many. His favorite verse was Hebrews 13:5 – “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.”.
Kal was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kay; sons, Martin (Barb) Swanson, Steven (Shannon) Swanson, Christopher (Rebecca) Swanson, and Joseph (Zoe) Swanson; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Nathan, Katherine, Ian, Callie, Ashleigh, Natalie, Micah, Caiden, Adah and Grant; and siblings, Caryl (Barb) Swanson, Cinda (Dave) Miller, Tony Swanson, and Theresa Swanson.
