Drivers Urged to Remain Alert on Forest Roads During Vegetation Management Activities

Forest Road 164-Honeymoon Trail currently has active timber sale activities with daily truck hauling.

Duluth, MN – September 17, 2024 –The Superior National Forest (NF) is asking fall visitors and area drivers to be extra safe and aware while driving around the Superior NF this fall as vegetation management activities are occurring.

Forest Road (FR) 164- the Honeymoon Trail currently has an active timber sale operating on it, which is also a popular fall color viewing road. Drivers should remain aware and expect logging traffic on this road. With logging activity, traffic may be backed up, down to one lane, and have some debris on the road. The road is also narrow and has sharp corners. Drivers are asked to drive slowly, crack their windows to listen for logging trucks, turn down their radio volume, and be alert and prepared to back up if they meet a logging truck, allowing them to pass safely. The Superior NF also asks drivers to not park along the narrow road to further impede traffic flow.

Gene Dressly, Acting Tofte District Ranger said, “Drivers are asked to use extreme caution on the Honeymoon Trail right now as it is a very narrow road and logging trucks are hauling logs actively at this time.”

In addition to the Honeymoon Trail, the following National Forest System roads have active log hauling. Other jurisdictional roads like state and county may also have logging activity. Please use caution and expect to encounter log trucks.
