Kathryn Speece, 77, of Duluth Township, died peacefully, with her family at her side on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Aspirus-St. Luke’s Hospital. Kathryn was born November 10, 1946 to Howard and Kathleen (Moore) Montgomery in Duluth where she grew up and attended Central High School. She met a young airman, Ronald Speece, in April of 1968, and they were engaged in May and married June 15th of that year. Kathryn was a homemaker through the years, and enjoyed caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing darts at Shorecrest, flower gardening and vacationing in the western United States.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Rose (James) Ultican; a grandson, Vincent Thompson; and a brother-in-law, John Bowen.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Speece; children, Teresa (Travis) Kempffer, Ron Speece Jr., Amy (Damion) DiFranco, and Amanda (James) Thompson; grandchildren, Keifer Larson, Lucas and Whitney Kempffer, Peyton and Braxton Twining, Corbin Speece, Lydia Lifto, and Desmond Thompson; a great-granddaughter, Oaklee Kempffer; a brother, George (Pat) Montgomery; a sister, Colleen “Cookie” Bowen; and several nieces and nephews.
