THFCU’s Mecklin receives honor from Lake County Chamber of Commerce

TWO HARBORS, Minn. – Erin Mecklin, Vice-President of Operations for Two Harbors Federal Credit Union (THFCU) was named Volunteer of the Year by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. The award was announced that the Chamber’s Spring Gala in April.

Mecklin’s volunteer effort over the years yields a long list of recipients. Among the programs benefitting from her time and talent commitments: Winter Frolic, Boy Scouts, Curling Club, PTA, THHS, Meals on Wheels, 4-H, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Mecklin admits she’s busy, but she’s never overwhelmed. “It’s just a part of my life, it’s who I am. You could say I feel an obligation to give back to my community, but it’s more of a desire to pay it forward – to make sure others can enjoy programs like Winter Frolic, in the same way my family has.”

Volunteerism is something Mecklin instills in her own children, knowing they’ll feel better as a result. “I’m proud to see in them a drive to help others – to be the first one to say “YES” when asked for help. It doesn’t take long for them to experience the many rewards of giving back, and that keeps them going.”

In her role at the credit union, in addition to overseeing deposit services and THFCU operations, Mecklin has developed various programs aimed at teaching youth fiscal responsibility. She is a financial education advocate, often bringing resources and instruction directly to local classrooms.

In addition, she is a frequent coordinator of THFCU charity drives and member events, such as Shred Day and Membership Appreciation Day.

Mecklin credits THFCU with providing an environment that encourages her to do good. “I work for a credit union,” she explains, “and we were founded on a philosophy of People Helping People. Volunteerism is one way to practice what we preach.”
