THFCU donates $10,000 to Volunteer Firemen’s Relief Association

TWO HARBORS, Minn. – Two Harbors Federal Credit Union (THFCU), in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB), has donated $10,000 to the Two Harbors Volunteer Firemen’s Relief Association. THFCU President and CEO Randy Willert, along with Board members Nick Osbakken and Al Peterson, presented the award last month.

The Volunteer Firemen’s Relief Association provides financial support to volunteer firefighters and their families. The Two Harbors Volunteer Fire Department serves an area of 580 square miles in and around Lake County.

THFCU’s donation was supported in part by FHLB’s Member Impact Fund. This matching grant program will result in FHLB Des Moines awarding $20 million in funding for various affordable housing and community development programs.

“What an incredible opportunity to amplify our credit union’s support of the Two Harbors community,” said Willert, “Volunteer firefighters have been protecting Lake County for over a century. To give back through this donation is gratifying.”

The award is just the latest in recent news of Two Harbors Federal Credit Union’s community efforts. Last Spring, THFCU Vice-President of Operations Erin Mecklin was named Volunteer of the Year by the Lake County Chamber of Commerce. Willert was named Minnesota’s Outstanding Credit Union Professional of the Year by the Minnesota Credit Union Network. His recognition detailed the considerable community giveback that THFCU has engaged in under his leadership.

Willert cited the generosity of partner FHLB, stating that the credit union’s contribution was even more meaningful as a result of the Member Impact Fund match. Kris Williams, President and CEO of FHLB Des Moines, agreed. “The Member Impact Fund continues to be a powerful resource in supporting our members as they expand access to affordable housing and drive community development,” said Williams, “It’s inspiring to see the partnerships centered around improving local communities in such a variety of ways.”
