The 96th Annual Fisherman’s Picnic brought a vibrant energy to Grand Marais, MN, from July 30th to August 3rd, 2025. People of all ages flocked to the annual event, reminiscing about previous picnics, reconnecting with old friends, and creating new memories.
The festivities kicked off on Wednesday with a delicious fundraiser: WISE Buffets in a Box. WISE, a local nonprofit dedicated to Women’s Initiative for Service and Education, offered these buffets to support service and educational initiatives in Cook County.
Throughout the five-day event, a wide array of activities ensured something for everyone. The Fisherman’s Picnic offered a lively kids’ carnival, live music filling the air all weekend long, and an abundance of delicious food. A standout culinary attraction was the World Famous Grand Marais Lions Club Fish Burgers, drawing long lines of eager attendees. Another irresistible draw, for those craving a sweet taste of nostalgia, was the Grand Marais “must-stop” – World’s Best Donuts.
The picnic also featured a variety of engaging and often amusing competitions that captivated onlookers. From the skillful rock skipping contest and the adorable cutest puppy contest to the creative rock painting competition, there was no shortage of entertainment. The ever-popular loon calling contest brought out the brave souls willing to showcase their bird-calling abilities, always a crowd-pleaser. And to top it off, a unique fish-tossing contest saw participants tossing and catching fish, much to the crowd’s delight.
This year’s cutest puppy contest had a particular highlight: Snowy, a rescue pit bull and blue heeler mix who happens to be deaf, melted hearts and took home the “Best in Show” award with Chloe. Many other participants celebrated victories in the numerous contests, competitions, and raffles held throughout the weekend.
Adding to the festive atmosphere, a variety of vendors, artisans, and unique shops lined the streets of Grand Marais, offering attendees a chance to discover special treats and treasures.
And, of course, no Fisherman’s Picnic would be complete without the spectacular parade and dazzling fireworks display! If you missed out this year, mark your calendars for next year’s celebration!
