Man dies after jumping from Tettegouche High Falls –  By Christine Mallory

According to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office press release, at 11:34 AM, August 11, 2025, a call came in to Lake County Dispatch 911 reporting a male had jumped off the High Falls within Tettegouche State Park and had not resurfaced.

Responding to the emergency call were Lake County Deputies, Lake County Rescue Squad, Silver Bay Police, Park Rangers, MN DNR, MN State Patrol and Lake County Ambulance.

On scene, MN DNR Officers deployed an underwater ROV, also known as an underwater drone. The victim was located by the ROV at approximately 1:46 PM at the base of the falls, according to the report.

At 63 feet high, the High Falls of the Baptism River is the tallest waterfall within Minnesota’s state border, according to the MN DNR website.

The victim has been identified as 54 year old Gregory Corniea from Edina, MN. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office learned the victim was visiting the area with his family when he jumped from the top of the falls. The Sheriff’s press release reported that the victim appeared to have hit his head on the rocks near the base of the falls while entering the water and did not resurface.

Corniea was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy as a standard protocol.
