However, the momentum shifted as the Hilltoppers answered with five consecutive goals, securing the win.
The Storm rebounded in their next matchup against Wadena-Deer Creek. The team came out strong, scoring twice in the first period within the first four minutes. Seniors Albin Linder and Ayden Althaus each found the net, with assists from freshman Cade Norman and senior Cole Anderson.
In the second period, the Wolverines fought back, netting two even-strength goals to tie the game. Before the period ended, senior Jacob Carpenter reclaimed the lead for the Storm with a goal assisted by Anderson.
The opposition tied it up in the 3rd and it would take a goal from Peterson, with Anderson and Althaus credited with the assists, to put the Storm on top before the end of the game, which ended in a 4-3 win for North Shore. Freshman goaltender Dax Krech blocked an impressive 23-26 shots on goal.

Two Local Boys Basketball Teams Square Off in Silver Bay
The Agates boys basketball team traveled north to face the Vikings, but not as far north as one might expect for a Cook County matchup. With Silver Bay players among the Two Harbors roster, the game was arranged to be played at William Kelley School, giving those players a chance to compete in their hometown.
This unique arrangement was appreciated not only by the players but also by fans from both teams, who took advantage of the shorter commute. The stands were packed with enthusiastic supporters, cheering for their teams.
The Agates secured a 72-51 victory over the Vikings. The following day, they faced a tough Cloquet team, falling to the Lumberjacks, who boasted an impressive 10-1 record at the time of this writing. Meanwhile, Cook County played McGregor, also suffering a loss, with a final score of 75-61.
Silver Bay and Cook County Girls Basketball
The Cook County girls basketball team faced a tough challenge in a recent matchup against McGregor, ultimately falling short. After their January 7th game against South Ridge, the Vikings will look forward to two consecutive home games, where they’ll take on Fond du Lac Ojibwe and Floodwood.
Meanwhile, the Silver Bay Mariners returned to action on January 2nd, hosting Cromwell-Wright in a long-awaited home game. Postponed games had kept the Mariners off the court for a couple weeks. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t overcome the Cardinals, who held an impressive 9-2 record at the time of this writing.
