HONOR THE FALLEN – SUPPORT THE LIVING Memorial Day Program and Mental Health Awareness Month

On Monday, May 26, the annual Two Harbors Community Memorial Day Program will be held at the Two Harbors High School Auditorium. The Two Harbors City Band will begin playing at 9:30 a.m., and the formal program will start at 10:00 a.m.

Following the program, the event will move to Van Hoven Park near the Edna G around 10:45 a.m., then conclude at the Lakeview Cemetery Veterans Section flagstaff between 11:45 a.m. and noon.

After the event, a free picnic-style luncheon will be offered at American Legion Post 109, 614 1st Avenue, Two Harbors.

Memorial Day is a federal holiday, but not one of celebration. It is our nation’s day to mourn and honor our deceased military service members.

Mental Health Awareness Month is ending — but the fight isn’t

As May comes to a close, so does Mental Health Awareness Month — but mental health challenges continue well beyond the calendar. Whether you’re just beginning your journey or navigating a long road, you are not alone.

Millions of Americans, including many Veterans, face these struggles. We must keep talking about mental health, fight the stigma, and improve access to care.

The Department of Veterans Affairs provides mental health services for PTSD, military sexual trauma, depression, grief, anxiety, and other conditions. Many of these services are available even if you’re not enrolled in VA health care.

If you’re unsure where to start, call the VA at 877-222-8387. Services include in-person appointments, tele-mental health, smartphone apps, and self-help resources.

More than 1.7 million Veterans received mental health care through VA in FY24. Asking for help is a sign of strength — not weakness. Be your own advocate. You deserve to be heard, supported, and well.

Thank you, Love Life.

Special thanks to Rachel (Aspirus Lake View), Ryan (VA Health Suicide Prevention), and Andy (VA Vet Center) for helping us support this vital cause.
