The 12U North Shore Storm girls hockey team performed greater than great at the Great Lake Skate tournament held at Sonju Arena over the weekend. Facing Hopkins Park, Chaska-Chanhassen, and Fairmont, the Storm powered through to claim the championship title.
The Storm opened the tournament with two shutouts, defeating Hopkins Park 6-0 on Friday and edging past Chaska-Chanhassen 2-0 on Saturday morning. The team showed strong offense Saturday evening with an 11-1 victory over Fairmont, earning the team a spot in the championship game against Eden Prairie.
On Sunday, the Storm clinched the title with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Eden Prairie.
Earlier this month, the team competed in the Rocky Taconite Tourney in Silver Bay. They won against Waseca 3-2 on January 3 but fell to International Falls Saturday morning. A 7-1 triumph over Thunder Bay that evening secured a spot in the third-place game on January 5, where the Storm beat Forest Lake 2-1 to claim third place.
With their Great Lake Skate victory, the 12U North Shore Storm have a strong 16-7-2 record so far this season.
