STEVE POCRNICH

Steve Pocrnich, age 50, died unexpectedly on February 14, 2024, at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, TX. He is survived by Amber, his wife of 27 years, sons Gary & Noah of San Antonio, his mother, Jeannette Pocrnich of Silver Bay, MN, brother David (Amy) of Proctor, MN, brother Michael (Jessica) of Shakopee, MN, nieces Abby & Anna, nephews William & Isaac and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gary & Jeanne Froemming, of Northome, MN. Steve is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Steve was proceeded in death by his father, Edward Pocrnich and maternal and paternal grandparents.

Steve and Amber met as students at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN, and upon graduation, they were married on June 29, 1996, in Chisholm, MN. Steve became an elementary school teacher while Amber embarked on her military career as an Army Nurse. For the next 26 years, Steve pursued his passion as a teacher while Amber advanced in her career moving among several Army assignments in NC, AK, OK, KS, HI, LA, and then retiring in TX.

Most recently, Steve was a 5th grade teacher at Copperfield Elementary, in Judson ISD, Converse, TX.  In his 26 years of teaching, Steve has been recognized with several awards as an outstanding teacher. He also coached numerous sports teams both at school and in the community.

Steve enjoyed all sports; with golf being his favorite. His two Hole in Ones were amongst his most prized accomplishments on the course. Being a true a MN Vikings fan, Steve’s loyalty did not waiver even in the absence of play-offs and championships. He was also a dedicated supporter of Gary and Noah in their lives. He seldom missed their games, practices and school events.  

Although a man of relatively few words, Steve made a lasting impact on so many. His enduring legacy rests on the firm foundation of the values of loyalty, respect & responsibility, that he and Amber instilled in Gary & Noah.

A Celebration of Steve’s life was held on Monday, February 19, 2024 in San Antonio. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Silver Bay, MN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests making a donation in Steve’s name to the Blessed Adele Chapel, Central Catholic High School, 1403 N St. Mary’s St., San Antonio, TX, 78215, Gary & Noah’s High School Alma Mater.
