PAUL MATTHEW (PHIPPS) GARRETT (November 4, 1976 – October 1, 2023)

Paul Matthew (Phipps) Garrett, born November 4, 1976 to Gary and Bonnie Phipps, departed to his heavenly home October 1, 2023 after an 18 month battle with pancreatic cancer.

It was a battle he fought with courage and grace with his wife by his side. Paul was born in Two Harbors, Minnesota. He was raised and lived there his whole life. He married Joline Garrett, February 2010. Joline was his closest friend and companion–his soulmate. Within the past couple of years Paul had returned to college at the University of Wisconsin-Superior to complete his degree in Criminal Justice.

He was named to the Dean’s List for his scholastic accomplishments. Pauls past work experience included being a wildland firefighter with the DNR, fighting fires in Minnesota, Florida and various places throughout the United States. Paul loved children and almost always had treats or small toys for them. He was “Smokey the Bear” in local parades, teaching children about fire safety.

Paul’s favorite colors were red and green. He loved comic books and had a large collection. Paul was loved by his family and friends! Paul took time and cared for others from all walks of life.

He enjoyed giving rides to those needing rides to the store or food shelf. As one friend stated, “He was the nicest, kindest, and gentlest of men!” Paul was preceded to his heavenly home by his father, Gary Phipps.

He is survived by his wife, Joline Garrett; mother, Bonnie Phipps; his siblings, Tim (Ruth) Phipps; Amy Phipps-Poe (James Poe), and Jonathan Phipps. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Nicole, Gabriel, Joshua, Samuel, Lukas, Josiah, Graciah, Ryder and Everleigh; great nephews, Carter and Rylan; and great niece, Louelle; and lots of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Paul loved his birthday and he will be spending his birthday, November 4, in Heaven this year!

Please join us as we celebrate Paul’s life on Saturday, October 14, 2023. First Baptist Church, Two Harbors, Minnesota. Visitation 12:00 pm, service 1:00 pm, meal to follow.
