Harry Dale Johnson passed away peacefully on November 29, 2023, at the Silver Bay Veterans Home.
Harry was born April 15, 1931 to Emil and Edith Johnson in Schroeder, MN where he grew up and attended school.
Soon after school, he joined the Army. He was a Korean War Veteran. He was quick to point out that he served in a foreign country (Alaska) because it hadn’t become a state until January of 1959.
Returning from the military, he went to work for the Schroeder Lumber Co. A short time after that, he went to work for the Erie Mining Co. and stayed there until he retired in 1990.
He married Beverly Anderson in 1953, the love of his life. They were together for 68 years.
He taught us to love the outdoors. We spent many hours fishing and hunting, especially riding horses. Harry spent countless hours training horses and mentoring anyone that shared his love for horses.
Above all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. His warmth and kindness, humor and storytelling will be missed.
During his time at the Vet’s Home, he made many friends with staff and residents. The staff referred to Harry and his friends (Chuck, Frank and Bud) as the gang of four. He was very close to all the folks at the Vet’s Home. Thank you all for taking care of our dad.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Edith Johnson; his loving wife, Beverly; seven brothers and sisters, and many of Beverly’s family.
He is survived by Steve (Dana), Kevin (Sue), and Elizabeth, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 sister-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
On a personal note, the military procession that took place the evening that our dad died was one of the most beautiful and respectful ceremonies we’ve had the privilege to attend. Thanks to everyone who made that possible.
A celebration of life will follow this coming summer.
