Darwyn R. Haveri, 83, died Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Diamond Willow, Proctor after a difficult struggle with Alzheimer’s.
Darwyn was born December 7, 1939 to Sulo and Vera (Anderson) Haveri in Two Harbors, and grew up in Finland where he was a life-long resident. He was hired by Erie Mining Railroad right out of high school and continued there and at their Taconite Harbor power plant until his retirement.
Darwyn was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Finland, served on the Finland Co-op board, and volunteered with many local organizations. He enjoyed flying, fishing, camping, raising chickens, and dancing with Janet.
Darwyn was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ward Haveri; and a sister, Twyla Nowotczynski. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jan-et; a daughter, Dawna (Brian) Sandmann; a son, Bruce (Michelle) Haveri; granddaughters, Mindy (Josh) Tuorila and Carly (Isaac) Sandmann; and great-grandchildren, Kara, Lynk and Eisa.
A Celebration of Darwyn’s Life will be held at the family home in the summer.
