WTIP wins Minnesota Society of Professional Journalists “Page One” Award

WTIP North Shore Community Radio has re­ceived an award for Breaking News Coverage for the story “Structure Fire Destroys Historic Lutsen Lodge Along Lake Superior,” produced by Kirsten Wisniewski and Kalli Hawkins. This live reporting from the site of the fire, aired the morning of February 6, 2024. The story also re­ceived a regional Edward R. Murrow award, and a first-place award from the Midwest Broadcast Journalists Association Eric Sevareid Awards.

In response to the state-level recognition, WTIP Executive Director Matthew Brown said, “We are immensely proud of our news team for their in-depth coverage of this devastating fire.” Brown added that, “our team of staff and volun­teer multi-media producers consistently create outstanding content that is vital to our commu­nity.”

The Minnesota Society of Professional Jour­nalists announced the winners of its annual Page One journalism awards June 26 at Nicollet Is­land Pavilion in Minneapolis.
