Notice is hereby given that a Special Election will be held in Lake County on August 8, 2023 (Primary) and November 7, 2023 (General) for the purpose of electing a candidate to fill the vacancy for the office of County Commissioner – District 1. The term of office for this vacancy expires January 4, 2027. Should 2 or fewer candidates file, the August 8, 2023 Primary Special Election will become the General Special Election.
Commissioner District 1 is comprised of the following precincts:
Beaver Bay Township, Precinct 4
Crystal Bay Township
Fall Lake Township
City of Silver Bay, Precinct 1
Unorganized Territory No. 1
(Little Marais)
Affidavits of candidacy may be filed in my office from May 17, 2023, through May 31, 2023. County Auditor office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office will be closed Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day, and will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on May 31, 2023.
Candidates may file in person or by mail if the filing is received during the filing period. Candidates who will be absent from the state during the filing period and meet the requirements of Minnesota Statutes section 204B.09, subdivision 1a, may arrange to file during the seven days immediately preceding the candidate’s absence from the state.
The filing fee for a county office is $50.00.
