Funding comes from 2025 Transportation Bill Senator Hauschild Supported
TWO HARBORS, Minn. – Senator Grant
Hauschild (DFL-Her-mantown) is announcing that new policies passed by the Legislature in the 2025 Legislative Session are providing $808,500 in savings for Two Harbors and $730,000 in savings for Lake County on the Highway 61 project.
The 2025 Transportation Bill provides a significant reduction in local government costs for road projects, including Highway 61. When the state picks up these costs, it means more resources for our communities and less need to rely on local property taxes. This is a major win for Two Harbors and Lake County residents,” said Senator Hauschild.
The savings come from changes to Mn- DOT’s Cost Participa- tion Policy that were made in the 2025 Transportation Bill, the first changes to the policy since it began in 1985.
The policy change requires more costs for Trunk High- way-eligible costs on MnDOT-initiated projects be covered by the state. Under the old policy Two Harbors would have been on the hook for $4,130,000 in costs, but with the new pol- icy $3,321,500. For Lake County, it would have been $870,000, but with the new poli- cy, it’s only $140,000.
