Are you currently playing a band instrument and interested to further develop and keep up your musical skills during the summer months? Or are you a former musician interested in playing your instrument again. If so, the Two Harbors City Band may be a good investment of your time and talent.
The Two Harbors City Band has been in existence since 1897 and is a wonderful organization in which to practice and perform. Starting in the middle of June, the Band rehearses on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at the Two Harbors High School band room. The Band performs a weekly Thursday night concert at the Paul Gauche Memorial Band Shell located in Thomas Owen Park in downtown Two Harbors. The City Band also performs on the 4th of July.
The Band is currently composed of dedicated area musicians of all ages and professions. This previous summer the band included young musicians from Duluth and Silver Bay. There are five members from one family, covering three generations, who participate, and all four members of another family also play with the Band. Presently, three members of the Band rotate conducting concerts throughout the summer.
Many past and present band members, as well as audience attendees, have indicated that having a band play in an outdoor band shell, in a city park, on a summer evening is one of the finest events classified as “small town Americana”.
The Two Harbors City Band is celebrating their 126th anniversary this year. If you are interested and participate with the Two Harbors City Band, you would be paid a small stipend at the end of the concert season based on attendance at rehearsals and concerts.
New this year for high school students who play with the Two Harbors City Band and maintain other employment during the 2023 summer concert season are scholarships provided by an anonymous donor. A priority deadline for filing scholarship applications is Tuesday, May 30th and the final deadline is Tuesday, June 6, 2023.
