Pete Stauber and Roger Skraba Visit Timber Coffee

By now, you (probably) know whether or not Pete Stauber and Roger Skraba are still serving in the U.S. Congress and the MN House, respectively. And if they are no longer serving in those capacities, you may be thinking, “Why is it important that their visit is reported?”. As Abraham Lincoln stated in his Gettysburg Address, that we are a “… government of the people, by the people, for the people…”, and so their stop in Silver Bay was one of a number in the past week to let the voice of the people be heard; to both the current administration and the administration to come.

The stop at Timber Coffee Company Thursday, October 31, was one of many stops Stauber made, taking time to speak to constituents throughout his districts. Accompanied by Roger Skraba to Silver Bay, and joined by Mayor LeBlanc, Stauber and Skraba answered citizens’ questions and shared some of their vision if they were re-elected.

Both Stauber and Skraba encourage the use of Minnesota’s natural resources and mining to strengthen the United States as a whole by supporting existing mining operations and looking to expand the sustainable use of natural resources.

Encouraging small business owners is another area in which Stauber and Skraba share a vision. Small businesses provide needed income to both business owners and those they employ. Being able to shop locally is especially important to those who cannot travel to larger cities to procure their necessities.

Various concerns were voiced by constituents and discussion was generated how these different issues would be approached. Stringent mining and business regulations were two of the concerns brought to the table. Stauber expressed the need for lawmakers with experience and knowledge in and of the committees they chair.

Stauber and Skraba concluded by thanking Timber Coffee for hosting them and the people of Silver Bay for coming out on a chilly October day to meet them.

Haley Searls
Hello! My name is Haley Searls. I’ve loved writing from an early age, though my nonfiction writing at five years old consisted mainly of weather and gardening reports. I still have some of those early articles: “It’s sunny.” “It’s still sunny.” “It’s raining.” I’m glad to say my writing has improved since then. I wrote a guest post for the Silver Bay Public Library blog, and was the writer/editor of the newsletter for my American Heritage Girls troop. I have been writing for the North Shore Journal since June 2022. Besides writing, I love reading, drawing, photography, music, and spending time with family and friends. Two books that have really influenced my writing are Reforming Journalism by Marvin Olasky and Writer to Writer by Bodie and Brock Thoene. As a journalist, I want to share positive community interactions and inspire people to make lasting connections. Article topics that interest me are ones which show community activities and involvement. Such articles include community events, youth accomplishments, library programming, small businesses, local history, local artists and authors, art programs, and cultural events such as theater and dance. If you have an article idea, email the North Shore Journal with my name in the subject line! I look forward to hearing from you!
