February 2024—Northwoods Volunteer Connection (NVC), a nonprofit organization based in Tofte, MN, announces its new executive director, Joanna “Jo” Swanson.
Since 2014, Northwoods Volunteer Connection—a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit—has been dedicated to recruiting, training, and delivering volunteers to work in and around the Superior National Forest of Minnesota. NVC’s mission is to promote stewardship of the Superior National Forest, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and surrounding wildlands by engaging volunteers and partner organizations in recreation and natural resource projects.
Jo comes to NVC with many years of nonprofit experience focusing on organizational development and volunteer engagement, most recently with the Superior Hiking Trail Association. “I began my career as a volunteer on public lands, and I am excited for this new challenge,” she says. “The Superior National Forest is an amazing resource and it takes an incredible effort to maintain access to its recreational opportunities.”
