Lutsen, Minn.— Odyssey Resorts is hosting a weekend of cold therapy, guided breathing, sauna and outdoor exercise Feb. 21-23, 2024, at Caribou Highlands Lodge.
The Wim Hof Weekend will follow the method created by the Dutch extreme athlete Wim Hof, noted for his ability to withstand extreme cold temperatures. Hof exploits include scaling Mount Everest in a pair of shorts and hiking boots, running a marathon in the Arctic barefoot and setting a Guinness World Record for swimming under ice.
The “Wim Hof Method” is based on the three pillars of breathing, cold therapy and commitment. Combining these practices helps to keep the body in its optimal, natural state. Wim Hof Method practitioners can experience a variety of health benefits including better sleep, increased energy, reduced stress, heightened focus, increased willpower and a stronger immune system.
Nick Fox, of Fox Fire Breathworks in Minneapolis, will guide attendees through breathwork, cold plunges in Lake Superior and a mountain hike in shorts. Fox is Minnesota’s first certified Wim Hof instructor and has led breathwork and ice bath workshops across the Midwest. He will also discuss how to make cold exposure in nature safe and fun.
Caribou Highlands Lodge, near the base of the Lutsen Mountains, is the host for the weekend’s events. The resort is a winter lover’s paradise with unmatched views of Lake Superior and convenient access to the area’s many outdoor recreation options. There are additional lodging options available at the nearby Mountain Inn at Lutsen. Meals are included in the weekend package.
