David Thie

I am 34-year veteran of the hospitality industry and hold the distinction of Certified Hotel Administrator with the American Hotel and Lodging Association. I worked for industry leaders, Hilton Hotels and Resorts and Accor Hotels and Resorts. I have also consulted with resorts and restaurants in northern Wisconsin, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I attended the Hilton Quality Service Institute in Beverly Hills, California and during my tenure with Accor was awarded the Area Manager of the year and attended the prestigious Accor Academy in Dallas, Texas. I worked with the family of Bob Marley to develop and open a boutique resort in Nassau, Bahamas creating the business and marketing plans and overseeing the project through construction and opening. As a consultant, I converted two Historic properties located in downtown Chicago, the Belden Stratford, and Seneca, into full-service hotels with corporate suites. I was on the initial team that developed the concept and design for Key Lime Cove, a 414-room hotel with 65,000 sq. ft. indoor waterpark. I worked on this project through the initial design phase, produced the operating budgets and pro-formas, and assisted with the development of the marketing plan and training programs. I completed a re-development plan for Telemark Resort located in Cable, WI, and re-organized Heartwood Conference Center & Retreat, opening a new free-standing restaurant on site, and starting a Blues Festival. I am past the President of the Sawyer County Development Corporation as well as the past President of the Lake Country Community Foundation. I was also a past Treasurer of the Hayward Lakes Visitor and Convention Bureau and served on the Wisconsin Restaurant Association Board of Directors. I enjoy travel, food & restaurants and visiting different cultures. I also like to fish, hunt, camp, and hike. I am the Sales Manager for the North Shore Journal.
