The evening of April 6th, music and dancing filled the gym of the Mary MacDonald Center. An annual tradition, the Silver Bay Father Daughter Ball is a special evening for dads and daughters to spend together.
Doors opened at 5:30 p.m. A welcome, message, and prayer were offered at 6:00, followed by dinner at 6:15. Dinner was served buffet style, with attendees filling plates from the tables set in the hallway outside the gym. Specialty breads accompany salad, meatballs, mashed potatoes, and more. A chocolate fountain was just inside the doors, with blackberries, pineapple, kiwis, and strawberries to be covered. Colorful cupcakes were placed on each decorated table.
This year’s decor was in light blue and white, with plenty of little lights and other elegant touches. Tables were set along two sides of the gym, with space in front for dancing.
Girls came in a wide variety of fancy dresses, from princess ball gowns on some young girls, to formal evening gowns, cocktail-style dresses, and semi-formal wear donned by the older daughters. Colors ranged from bright pink to muted tones to classic white. Gold and silver colored tiaras were given to girls, making them feel like princesses, and a professional photographer was on hand to capture the memories of the evening.
The dancing officially began at 7:00 p.m., with the song “Butterfly Kisses”. This slow song was followed by some more upbeat, popular tunes, as well as a few favorite Disney tunes that were much enjoyed by the youngest girls.
Older sisters encouraged younger sisters to dance, and girls time and time again pulled their dads onto the dance floor. At one point, some girls convinced most attendees to join a giant circle on the dance floor and laughed as they created their own circular dance.
It was a sparkly evening to begin April, and a night of memories for those attending. The updates for next year’s Father Daughter Ball can be found at https://www.facebook.com/FatherDaughterBallSilverBay.
