In October 2023, the Solid Rock Youth Group from First Baptist Church in Two Harbors began hosting N2N Friday Night Games in the gym above the Neighbor to Neighbor Thrift Store. The game nights were begun to give teens in the community “something fun to do” on Friday nights.
Beginning with the youth at First Baptist Church, the game nights have grown to include any teenager in junior high or high school, with Friday Night Game posters shared with other churches and schools. The games played are on a rotating schedule and include volleyball, 9-Square in the Air, and dodgeball variations. Classic arcade games and board games are also available for teens who want to hang out but don’t love the gym games.
Teen Josiah Poe says of the game nights, “It’s a great place to hang out with my friends. My favorite thing to do is volleyball. It provides a safe and warm space and a healthy environment.”
Another teen, Alicea Erickson, said, “We have a lot of fun, other groups are invited too, so it’s a good opportunity to interact with other people our age.”
“We want to see our teens have good, clean fun together. The more the merrier. All teens are welcome from gamers of all kinds to social butterflies and everyone in between!” Solid Rock Youth Directory Amy Nelson said. “We’d love to see more kids from outside our circle. Community support is so important, so as our neighbors share and invite the teens within their sphere of influence to join us, we’d love to see these game nights grow!”
The next game night will be held on February 16th, and it will be 9-Square in the Air. March’s game nights are on the 1st (volleyball) and the 15th (dodgeball). As the winter sports season comes to an end, bring a friend or two and check out N2N for some fun. Solid Rock Youth can be contacted through First Baptist Church or found on Instagram @solid_rock_fbc.
