In a fast-paced Tuesday night meeting, the Silver Bay Council approved the renewal of leases for Wildly Organic and Lake County Health and Human Services at the Mary Mac Business Center. HHS will be adding a Food Shelf to the services they offer, and there was a brief mention of additional space being available for lease at Mary Mac. The Council also approved lease renewals for the Lake County Ambulance Service.
City Engineer Joe Rhein presented a proposal for professional services from Bolton & Menk for their oversight of the public infrastructure phase of construction for the Boathouse Bay project. The Council accepted the proposal which will allow Bolton & Menk to oversee the construction of public utilities. This will include the water mains, sewers, lift stations, and wastewater systems. JPJ Engineering is contracted for the construction work. The city has a significant interest in knowing that the public infrastructure that is a part of this project is done correctly and to specifications. Bolton & Menk did the design work for the public utilities and having oversight will allow them to, in good faith, make sure the city is getting its money’s worth. The $178,000 for this work by Bolton & Menk has been budgeted as part of the overall construction costs.
Theodore Czaplicki has resigned from his position at the Water / Wastewater treatment facility. The Council thanked Czaplicki for his service and approved posting the position for hire.
A tentative date has been set for a groundbreaking celebration for Boathouse Bay. As of this writing, the groundbreaking will take place on Wednesday, January 31st at 11:30 AM. Dignitaries and the public are invited to attend. Interested residents should watch this newspaper for updates regarding the date and time.
Finally, in the last edition of the Northshore Journal, I mistakenly reported that Richard Derosier had been appointed Acting Mayor. Derosier will serve in this position only in the event that Wade Leblanc is unavailable for any reason. I apologize for any confusion caused by my misunderstanding, and Mayor LeBlanc voiced his appreciation for all the concerned citizens who called City Hall to inquire about his well-being.
The next Silver Bay Council meeting will be held on Monday, February 5th at 7:00.
