Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Visits Silver Bay Veterans’ Home

On August 5, motorcycles roared into the parking lot of the Minnesota Veterans’ Home – Silver Bay. The motorcyclists – themselves veterans or spouses of veterans – dismounted and spent the morning visiting with residents of the Veterans’ Home.

Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) members and residents of the Silver Bay Veterans’ Home enjoyed refreshments and visiting outside. The weather was perfect for such an event – not too hot and not too cold. One CVMA member brought his dog, Peanut, with him, and residents of the Veterans’ Home enjoyed meeting the eight pound service dog. Peanut even has his own Facebook page, “Peanut’s Great Adventures”.

The Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) is an “association of combat veterans from all branches of the United States Armed Forces who ride motorcycles as a hobby.” As a registered 501(c)(19) veterans’ charity, their mission is to “support and protect those who have defended our country and our freedoms.”

The CVMA provides assistance and help to individual veterans, veteran care facilities, and other veteran organizations and registered charities. Membership is divided into three categories – Full Members (veterans with verified combat service), Supporter Members (veterans with non-combat military service and a strong dedication to helping veterans), and Auxiliary Members (spouses of Full and Supporter members). The CVMA has members in all 50 states and multiple countries, including combat areas.

Thank you to the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association for your service to our country, and your continued service by aiding your fellow veterans.

Haley Searls
Hello! My name is Haley Searls. I’ve loved writing from an early age, though my nonfiction writing at five years old consisted mainly of weather and gardening reports. I still have some of those early articles: “It’s sunny.” “It’s still sunny.” “It’s raining.” I’m glad to say my writing has improved since then. I wrote a guest post for the Silver Bay Public Library blog, and was the writer/editor of the newsletter for my American Heritage Girls troop. I have been writing for the North Shore Journal since June 2022. Besides writing, I love reading, drawing, photography, music, and spending time with family and friends. Two books that have really influenced my writing are Reforming Journalism by Marvin Olasky and Writer to Writer by Bodie and Brock Thoene. As a journalist, I want to share positive community interactions and inspire people to make lasting connections. Article topics that interest me are ones which show community activities and involvement. Such articles include community events, youth accomplishments, library programming, small businesses, local history, local artists and authors, art programs, and cultural events such as theater and dance. If you have an article idea, email the North Shore Journal with my name in the subject line! I look forward to hearing from you!
