Swaddling Clothes Celebrates Grand Opening

On June 17th, Swaddling Clothes celebrated its grand opening. Held on the third Saturday of each month at Faith Lutheran Church in Silver Bay, Swaddling Clothes provides baby and child care items to families free of charge. The day for the Silver Bay Swaddling Clothes coincides with the Silver Bay Ruby’s Pop-up Pantry.

The mission of Swaddling Clothes is “to share the mercy of Christ with our neighbors through the gifts of clothing, food, friendship, and the forgiving Word of God.” The program is run by various congregations of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.

Faith Lutheran Church of Silver Bay wanted to reach mothers and their children of the North Shore, and in February of this year, Swaddling Clothes held a “soft opening”, offering only diapers and wipes. Now they are fully open, with diapers, wipes, clothing, and miscellaneous items. When I visited the grand opening, I was greeted by volunteers at a sign-in table. Two rooms were dedicated to displaying the items available. Colorful children’s clothes and like-new maternity clothes hung on rolling racks.

The items available at Swaddling Clothes were donated by community members and Swaddling Clothes’ sister program in Aurora. When Swaddling Clothes receives cash donations, diapers and wipes are purchased. Families with a specific, urgent need can contact Swaddling Clothes asking for assistance by emailing silverbay@swaddlingclothes.org.

One Swaddling Clothes volunteer related that, “Even if just one person comes,” that one person is worth helping. The next Swaddling Clothes is scheduled for July 15 at 10 AM. For the most current information email the above address or visit https://www.facebook.com/SwaddlingClothesSilverBay/.

Haley Searls
Haley Searls
Hello! My name is Haley Searls. I’ve loved writing from an early age, though my nonfiction writing at five years old consisted mainly of weather and gardening reports. I still have some of those early articles: “It’s sunny.” “It’s still sunny.” “It’s raining.” I’m glad to say my writing has improved since then. I wrote a guest post for the Silver Bay Public Library blog, and was the writer/editor of the newsletter for my American Heritage Girls troop. I have been writing for the North Shore Journal since June 2022. Besides writing, I love reading, drawing, photography, music, and spending time with family and friends. Two books that have really influenced my writing are Reforming Journalism by Marvin Olasky and Writer to Writer by Bodie and Brock Thoene. As a journalist, I want to share positive community interactions and inspire people to make lasting connections. Article topics that interest me are ones which show community activities and involvement. Such articles include community events, youth accomplishments, library programming, small businesses, local history, local artists and authors, art programs, and cultural events such as theater and dance. If you have an article idea, email the North Shore Journal with my name in the subject line! I look forward to hearing from you!
