LAKE COUNTY PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER FEBRUARY 23, 2026

The Lake County Planning Commission sat in session at 5:00 p.m. on this date and conducted hearings and other business.

I-26-004r– Motion by Bathke supported by Guenthner to recommend to County Board 5-year approval with conditions of a renewal interim use application for a vacation rental home filed by Virginia Jensen at 683 Point Drive, Ely, MN 55731. The property is described as: Lot 7 in Section 28, Township 63, Range 11, 2.55 acres, zoned shoreland (Garden), RR/Residential Recreational District, 1 acre minimum, Fall Lake Township. PID: 28-6376-28070. Motion carried; Hoops, Bathke, B. Ernest, Ellefson, Guenthner, and Mayer voted in favor; none opposed. 

RZ-26-001– Motion by Guenthner supported by B. Ernest to recommend to County Board approval of a rezone application filed by Ada Helleloid for the rezone of one parcel from R-4 Residential District (2 acre minimum) to Resort Commercial District (2 acre minimum) at 2724 Hwy 61, Two Harbors, MN 55616. The property is legally described as: That Part of Outlots 1 and 2 of Lot 4 as desc in Doc No A000168635 in Section 32, Township 54, Range 9, 13.51 acres, zoned shoreland (Lake Superior), R-4/Residential, 2 acre minimum, Silver Creek Township. PID: 29-5409-32620. Motion carried; Hoops, Bathke, B. Ernest, Ellefson, Guenthner, and Mayer voted in favor; none opposed. Motion by Guenthner supported by Ellefson to recommend to County Board approval of the rezone of two parcels from R-4 Residential District (2 acre minimum) to R-3 Residential District (2.5 acre minimum). The properties are legally described as: N 1/2 of SE 1/4 of SE 1/4 in Section 31, Township 54, Range 9 & Outlot 2 of NW 1/4 of SW 1/4 less that part North of Town Road in Section 32, Township 54, Range 9, 20 & 8.34 acres, zoned shoreland (North Shore Management Zone), R-3/ Residential, 2 acre minimum, Silver Creek Township. PIDs: 29-5409-31910 / 32575. Motion carried; Hoops Bathke, B. Ernest, Ellefson, Guenthner, and Mayer voted in favor; none opposed. 

Motion by Bathke supported by Guenthner to approve the January 26, 2026 minutes as corrected. Motion carried; Hoops, Bathke, B. Ernest, Ellefson, Guenthner, and Mayer voted in favor; none opposed. 

Motion by Guenthner supported by Bathke to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried; Hoops, Bathke, B. Ernest, Ellefson, Guenthner, and Mayer voted in favor; none opposed. Meeting adjourned at 6:24 p.m.
