The Lake County Board of Commissioners hereby provides notice of its intent to consider a proposal to change the offices of Recorder and Auditor/Treasurer from elected positions to appointed positions pursuant to Minnesota Statute.
Public comment will be taken on this matter during the regular meeting of the Lake County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
Proposed Resolution to make the Offices of the Auditor/Treasurer and Recorder Appointed Pursuant to Minnesota Statute 375A.1205
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 375A.1205 provides a process for making certain county offices appointed; AND
WHEREAS, the office of the County Auditor/Treasurer is currently vacant and being fulfilled on an interim basis by an appointment of the County Board; AND
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statute 375A.1205, Subdivision 1, allows the County Board to make this office appointed, through a competitive process, upon the occurrence of a vacancy; AND
WHEREAS, the current County Recorder provided notice to the County Board on January 8, 2026, of the intent not to file for office in the next term; AND
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes 375A.1205, Subdivision 2, allows the County Board make this office appointed, through a competitive process, if the current office holder has notified the County Board that the officer will not be filling for another term in this office; AND
WHEREAS, publication of this resolution occurred in the Northshore Journal on February 27, 2026, and March 6, 2026, for two consecutive weeks; AND
WHEREAS, following publication of the document and prior to formally adopting the resolution, the County Board provided an opportunity for public comment on this issue on March 10, 2026; AND
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lake County Board of Commissioners hereby makes the office of County Recorder and the office of County Auditor/ Treasurer appointed.
