Lake County joins nationwide effort to honor those who served
Each November, communities across the nation shine green lights to honor our nation’s Veterans. The initiative—Operation Green Light for Veterans—is a visible show of support and gratitude for those who have worn the uniform, especially those transitioning from active service to civilian life.
From November 4 through November 11, 2025, Lake County will once again participate in Operation Green Light, joining counties, cities, and landmarks across America in displaying green lights as a symbol of recognition and appreciation.
The Lake County Board of Commissioners formally adopted a proclamation on October 14, 2025, designating the week of November 4–11 as Operation Green Light for Veterans Week in Lake County. The proclamation acknowledges the sacrifices and continued service of Veterans in our communities, from local organizations and public service roles to those helping fellow Veterans access their earned benefits.
Green has long been associated with renewal, hope, and well-being—all themes that resonate with service members returning home. By shining a green light, residents send a powerful message: “Thank you for your service, and welcome home.”
Participation is simple—replace one visible exterior light with a green bulb or display a green light in your home, business, or storefront window during the observance period.
To help residents take part, free green light bulbs will be available beginning October 27 at both Lake County Service Centers (Two Harbors and Silver Bay). Bulbs first come, first served, while supplies last.
In addition to community participation, the Lake County Courthouse will be illuminated in green throughout the week to symbolize the county’s unified commitment to honoring Veterans and their families.
Each green light represents the shared gratitude and unity of a community that refuses to let its Veterans fade into the shadows. Lake County invites all residents to participate in this small but meaningful act of appreciation.
Upcoming event for Lake County Veterans: Training and discussion session on how to create an ID.me account. Join Operation Volunteers For Veterans (V4V) at the Clair Nelson Community Center in Finland on Tuesday, October 28th at 4:30pm. Treats will be provided.
