Friday Night Under NFL Lights: Agates Make Their Mark at TCO Stadium

For years, the Minnesota Vikings’ Prep Spotlight series has given high school football players from across Minnesota the rare chance to compete on NFL turf. On Friday, September 5, that spotlight finally shone on Northern Minnesota.

As the Two Harbors Agates and Duluth Denfeld Hunters stepped onto the turf at TCO Stadium, it was more than just another game. It was a moment of pride, a chance to represent their communities, and an opportunity to play on a stage usually reserved for NFL athletes.

Teams don’t apply to join the Prep Spotlight series. Instead, selections are made through a mix of factors such as strong past seasons, program revitalization, community involvement, and initiative from coaches or school leaders.

In this case, a connection to the Denfeld program helped spark the invitation. Two Harbors was selected as a worthy opponent after both teams showed strong performances in 2024 and promising potential for 2025. The Agates also have historically stood out for their community involvement, often stepping in to lend a hand and contribute muscle wherever it’s needed.

The night gained extra significance with the presence of C.J. Ham, Minnesota Vikings fullback and proud Denfeld alum. Ham tossed the ceremonial coin before kickoff, connecting past and present in a moment that resonated far beyond the field. His appearance served as a reminder that dreams born on high school turf can reach the highest levels of the sport.

The Agates embraced the opportunity to play on the professional field, delivering a dominant defensive performance that shut out Denfeld and secured a 23–0 victory. Their defensive line held strong, and the team refused to give up any big plays.

Two Harbors will next take on Mora at Mora on September 12. After last year’s 48–0 victory over the same team, the Agates hope to carry the momentum from their pro-field performance into another strong victory.
