North Shore Federal Credit Union’s Hunger Hero Program: Fighting Hunger Locally

January 8, 2025 – North Shore Federal Credit Union (NSF­CU) is proud to an­nounce the incredible success of their Hun­ger Hero program in 2024, highlighting their unwavering com­mitment to addressing food insecurity with­in our local commu­nities. Hunger Hero was created to tackle the reality that hunger is not just a distant is­sue—it’s a challenge faced by many of our neighbors in Lake, Cook, and St. Louis Counties.

Through the dedica­tion of their members, staff, and communi­ty partners, they’ve achieved remarkable milestones this year:

December Hunger Hero Campaign

  • Funds Raised: $14,000
  • NSFCU Match­ing Contribution: $3,000
  • Total Decem­ber Donation: $17,000 donat­ed to local food shelves

Year-to-Date Contri­butions (2024)

  • Total Donations: $43,802
    • Contributions were made through multiple Hunger Hero golf scrambles, yearly donations, and other com­munity initia­tives.
    • Counties Sup­ported: Lake, Cook, and St. Louis Counties

Program Milestones

• Total Contribu­tions Since 2016: $354,871

The Hunger Hero pro­gram directly bene­fits local food shelves and backpack nutri­tion programs, help­ing families access es­sential food resources throughout the year. Organizations support­ed by NSFCU include:

  • Cook County Food Shelf
    • Ruby’s Pantry – Grand Marais and Silver Bay
    • Silver Bay Food Shelf
    • Two Harbors Area Food Shelf
    • Second Harvest – Northern Lakes Food Bank (Duluth)

Additionally, they proudly contribute to backpack nutrition programs each Sep­tember in Grand Por­tage, Grand Marais, and Silver Bay to en­sure students have re­liable access to nutri­tious meals.

NSFCU’s footprint continues to grow, with branches from Grand Portage to Du­luth and a new office opening this summer in Pike Lake. As they expand, their commit­ment to addressing local needs remains steadfast.
