The North Shore Storm girls hockey team is on a roll with eight wins, one tie, and just one loss—an overtime battle against Moose Lake. Since that November 14th game, the team has been unstoppable, showing strong performances on the ice and finding the back of the net time and time again.
On December 10th, the Storm faced off against the Superior Spartans at Rukavina Arena in Silver Bay. While the first period saw no scoring, sophomore Berkeley Hoff broke the stalemate just 28 seconds into the second period with a goal assisted by senior Nina Thorson and sophomore Hayden Bright. Junior Natalie Walker followed up with another goal, assisted by fellow juniors Sydney Erickson and Sarah Stauber.
In the third period junior Ella Peterson scored with support from sophomores Reagan Hogenson and Reese Costley. Though the Spartans managed to respond with a goal, Thorson answered on a power play, assisted by Stauber and Hoff. Freshman Hallie Komarek sealed the deal with an unassisted goal. Superior added one more before the final whistle, but the Storm secured a 5-2 victory.
Two days later, the Storm hosted International Falls at Sonju Arena and unleashed a flurry of goals. Hoff opened the scoring early in the first period, with assists from Thorson and sophomore Ashlynn Cavallin.
The second period turned into a scoring frenzy. Thorson, Bright, and Erickson each netted even-strength goals. Sophomore Callie Ernest capitalized on a power play, while sophomore Lilly Ernest, scored an unassisted goal. Costley added two goals to the tally, and Hogenson completed a hat trick.
Bright capped off the scoring in the third period, completing the Storm’s 12-0 shutout. The team fired 43 shots on goal while allowing only four against them—a demonstrating a dominant performance from start to finish.
Although their December 16th game against Sartell/Sauk Rapids didn’t end in a blowout, it was no less thrilling. Junior Ella Peterson scored the opening goal, assisted by Hogenson and Costley. The Sabres tied it early in the third period, pushing the game into overtime. Hoff stepped up once again, scoring the game-winning goal with assists from Stauber and Bright, securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
The team hit the road to face Rock Ridge on December 19th and Northern Lakes on December 20th. Stay tuned for updates on these games. Congratulations to the Storm girls on their remarkable streak— keep the momentum going!
