William Kelley students, Sarah Maxwell, Nevaeh Lahti and Talon Williams, spoke to the School Board last week about their recent experience at a statewide Student Council Leadership Forum. Minnesota high school students from 525 different schools attended the forum to talk with their peers about the important ways that students contribute to their communities. Students also shared fundraising strategies and discussed efforts on how mental health concerns are being addressed in their districts for both students and staff. The forum was clearly a valuable learning experience for all three students. The Board also acknowledged Seniors, Maxwell, Williams, Alexa Harrison and Juniors Nick Swartz and Christina Kaiser who were inducted into the National Honor Society.
The Board approved three upcoming student trips, including the North Shore Storm’s annual ski trip to Michigan which is scheduled for this coming December from the 12th to the 14th. The William Kelley Band is planning a trip to Florida which is scheduled for March 17th to 21st of next year, and the Two Harbors World Culture Club is planning for a trip to Iceland, which is currently scheduled for March of 2026.
As the first quarter comes to a close, Minnehaha students and staff are planning for a Winter Holiday Concert, to be held at the THHS auditorium on December 11th. The William Kelley ribbon cutting ceremony was well attended by alumni, current students and their families and staff members and community members from across the District. Two Harbors Social Studies Teacher, Kristi Wasko, provided students with an opportunity to participate in a Mock Election on November 5th with 300 students casting votes for President, US House and Senate, and State House and Senate races. Student votes matched those of the National election. Exciting things are being offered through the District Community Education program. Consult the Fall edition of the Ripple for more information.
The Board accepted with regret the resignation of Harriet Hagedorn from District #4.
The next School Board meeting is scheduled for December 10th at Two Harbors High School at 6:00 PM.
