KTWH Radio Hosts Annual Harvest Moon Gala November 2, 2024

KTWH – Two Harbors Community Radio folks will host The Annual Harvest Moon Gala silent auction, live music and taco bar dinner event on Saturday, November 2 beginning at 5pm at The American Legion in downtown Two Harbors.

Complete info as well as dinner reservation tickets can be found at ktwh.org

The Harvest Moon Gala is an annual fundraiser for the non-profit Two Harbors Community Radio and a celebration with the community.

There will be a silent auction with dozens of high quality and unique items to bid on, live music before and after dinner, and a reservation- only taco bar dinner and dessert for pre-paid dinner ticket purchasers. Purchase tickets at ktwh. org or in person at the KTWH radio studio in the Harbor Landing Building, 629 7th Ave. Two Harbors.

The event is on the main floor of The American Legion at 614 First Avenue in Two Harbors. It is open to the public and wheelchair accessible. When doors open at 5pm, the silent auction will begin and Tracy Parks will play live music. The Taco Bar opens at 6pm. A pre-paid dinner reservation is required for the Taco Bar with dessert. Derrick Hietala and Phil Ness will perform an acoustic music set at 7pm and then Polkarobics will take the stage at 8pm. The silent auction closing time is 8:30 and the music will continue until about 9:30pm.

This is our seventh such autumn benefit and we are excited about opening the silent auction and live music to the public. Each year we have met our fundraising goal with the Harvest Moon Gala event, thanks to our supportive community. We anticipate a really fun evening, especially with the high energy music that Polkerobics is sure to serve up.

Two Harbors Community Radio is the nonprofit that operates KTWH-LP, a grassroots noncommercial community radio station serving greater Two Harbors and the north shore at 99.5 FM, streaming online at ktwh.org. The station is in its tenth year on the air as a listener supported, volunteer driven outlet for local news and information and diverse musical programming, sharing radio with a lake view.

Hometown keyboardist, vocalist and music instructor Tracy Parks will provide music for the social hour and silent auction viewing. The art of music has been Tracy’s passion since high school and along with playing live at events Tracy offers lessons in piano and percussion.

The fun and festive atmosphere continues after dinner with blues, rock & soul style music with Derrick Hietala and Phil Ness. With the exception of taking some stretches of family time off from performing live music together, Derrick and Phil have been writing original songs together and playing originals and other favorite songs for live audiences since they started back in Two Harbors High School some 27 years ago. They consider themselves lucky to still be playing together for all these years and feel especially blessed to have had experiences playing alongside some of the best musicians in the northland to include Curt Anderson, Troy Anderson, Jim Holbeck and David Prudhomme. Phil Ness is Derrick’s favorite guitar player. They’re very grateful to God for the gift of knowing one another and sharing their music.

The POLKAROBICS are really going to kick it up! Up front and center, Suzi Ludwig plays Accordion and sings in a high energy style. Adding more great vocals is Jimi Cooper and his Guitar, Banjo and Ukulele. Veikko Lepisto keeps the rhythm with his upright Bass and his unique vocal rhythm and sitting at the drums, Brad Nelson and his magic sticks. Formed in 2017, the Polkarobics rose to meet the demand for polka and Oktoberfest music in the Duluth area. They play a wide variety of polkas and waltzes. Their set list includes polka favorites like Tavern in the Town, Beer Barrel Polka and the Clarinet Polka, but also includes polka versions of songs by the Ramones and the Cars. Expect some old time country to be thrown into the mix along with some original music. The Polkarobics are available for Oktoberfest, weddings and other events looking for fun music to get folks on the dance floor!
