The first of October marked the final away dual swim meet of the season for the Two Harbors Agates, and according to Head Coach Heather Mayfield, it was “Another great week in the books for the Agates.”
Competing at the Iron Range Conference that Tuesday, the team achieved their highest finish since joining the conference in 2021, placing 2nd overall. Last year, they placed 4th.
Seven team members earned All-Conference honors, the largest number since joining the conference. In comparison, four swimmers were named All-Conference in 2021, three in 2022, and two in 2023.
Bella Imholte (Two Harbors) and Lucy Lane (Marshall) dominated the 200-meter freestyle, taking 1st and 2nd place. Imholte, who has been breaking records all season, set a new meet record with a time of 2:01.27. She also earned All-Conference honors in the 100-meter backstroke.
Lane clinched 1st place in the 500-meter freestyle, while Ella Aebly (Marshall) finished 2nd in the individual medley. In the 400-meter freestyle relay, Brynn von Goertz (Two Harbors) secured 2nd, and MJ Wharton (Grand Marais) took 3rd, with Lucy Nelson (Two Harbors) finishing 4th in the 200-meter freestyle relay. Harper Smith was named All-Conference for diving.
“We had athletes from all three schools we co-op with, which makes this achievement extra special,” said Coach Mayfield.
Coach Mayfield continues to be impressed with her team’s talent, attitude, and camaraderie.
“I’m so proud and always honored to have the opportunity to coach these amazing ladies,” she shared on the team’s Facebook page.
Congratulations, Agates! Keep up the great work – you’re doing swimmingly!
