The Silver Bay Golf Course was up to par as it hosted two recent events on the green, starting with the Junior Tournament on August 14th, and followed by the 65th Annual Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament during the third weekend of August.
Junior Tournament Highlights
Twelve young golfers took the course for a 9-hole tournament and showed quite a drive to succeed. Easton Hohman came in first place in the boy’s division, shooting a 39. Berkley Hoff, who finished 55, was top golfer in the girl’s division.
“Of my 41 kids, to have 12 of them that are course-ready and tackle the course and put a score on the scoreboard is really good,” said Mike Guzzo, who coaches youth golf. “Every year that number seems to grow. Now, I think we’re going to keep getting more.”
Congratulations to Easton, Berkley, and all of the kids who participated in the tournament and are staying on course to become great golfers!
65th Annual Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament
The weekend of August 16th – 18th marked the 65th Annual Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament in Silver Bay. The event attracted 132 golfers. 44 were local participants and the others traveled from out of town, some being former Silver Bay residents. The tournament featured 18 holes a day, with golfers vying for top honors in various flights.
In the President’s Flight, which counts only the final day’s score for those out of contention, recent high school graduate Jacob Stadler claimed victory with a score of 37/37. “He shot a nice score for a kid who just graduated from high school,” said Mike Guzzo, who also participated in the competition.
The tournament also featured categories for senior golfers, aged 50 and above, and super seniors, aged 65 and older. Harry Johnson took first place in the Senior Championship Flight with a score of 233, followed by Frank Rich at 234, and Mike Guzzo at 235. J.R. Lee won the Senior President’s Flight with a 40/39 score. In the Super Senior Championship Flight, Al Davis took the top spot, followed by Pete Petric in second, with Don Smith winning the consolation round.
The event is a joint venture between the Silver Bay Men’s Club and the Silver Bay Golf Course and proceeds from the tournament go back into the golf program.
Congratulations to all the champions in the tournament and be sure to come back fore the 66th Annual Men’s Invitational next year!
