Two Harbors City administrators have been working for two years on the Odegard Trail improvement project. Forward progress has been slow because a portion of the land involved in the project proposal crossed land owned by the Canadian National Railroad. Negotiations with CN have taken an inordinate amount of time but the necessary agreements have been reached with CN and the needed funding has recently been awarded through grants from MnDOT and the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation (DSCAF). At Tuesday night’s meeting, the City Council was able to formally approve to move the plan forward with the understanding the design elements will need to be approved by MnDOT. When the MnDOT approval is completed, Lake County will be able to open the bidding process and hopefully construction can begin soon after that.
In other news, the Two Harbors Library has continued to see an increase in activity over the course of the past year. $1,400 was raised at the Mother’s Day Book Sale. There are 3014 city residents who are active users of the Library facilities and there are 65,000 books in circulation. 34,000 of those books are in the Library’s physical collection and the remaining 31,000 are either Ebooks or are part of the Library’s Audio Book collection.
The next Two Harbors City Council meeting is scheduled for June 10th and is currently scheduled to start at 6:00.
