Back in the 1970s, high school seniors from the Lake Superior School District received training that equipped them to serve as Emergency Medical Technicians in Silver Bay and other Lake County communities.
Members of the Silver Bay community are exploring the possibility of reviving this practice by bringing Advanced First Aid, EMT and EMR training to interested high school students. This effort has the support of Representative Dave Lislegard and Senator Grant Hauschild and would strengthen EMT services in the area. According to Dale Knaffla, the training plan, when implemented, would allow sophomores to receive advanced first aid training, while juniors and seniors could receive EMR and EMT training, respectively. A public meeting to discuss this plan is scheduled for June 12th at 3:30 in the North Shore Partners conference room. The Lake County Ambulance Service, Silver Bay Rescue Squad and Silver Bay Police Department will be on hand to share information about the services they provide. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the meeting on the 12th and public input will be welcomed.
